British Altitude Record Attempt: This year UK balloonist Rob Franklin will take off with the aim of setting a new British altitude record for a 77,000ft3 balloon by reaching a height of 40,000 feet (12200 metres). At one-and-a-half times the height of Everest the air temperature will be -60 to -70°C, and there's not enough oxygen to support life. We've supplied Rob with a Rab down suit for the flight.
